no title

although i live next door
i love you still
i'm saved because you're near -
the healing process starts
as soon as i sense your beeswax and the lavender
and how you fill our hearts -

i knw you're sleeping - ringed by churchyard yews
if you were human - how i'd love to talk
although you're famous - one of only six
i feel such peaceful comfort near your bricks

wendy the great

if you want to know the answer -
ask my mum
i am her biggest fan - sir!
- ask my mum
she always knows what to say
when you've had a rubbish day
she'll make it feel o.k
- ask my mum

if you want to knit a dream,
ask my mum
make cakes with good fresh cream
- ask my mum
she's always bright and calm
cinnamon candles are her balm
she'll sort things out without a
qualm...
that's my mum

this sporting life

whatever this poem is -

it's not as perfect as you
ten out of ten for all your d.i.y
for caring when the shelf's about to fall
and when the j.c.b is crashing through
it's time you drove yourself towards
a new direction -
culture - say - or sculpting - try
to press the red instead of always green

dear squirrel - when you climb the next high tree

make sure the one who shares your branch is me

raspberries for scarborough

time for the sea
that's you and me
there's gran - grandad and twice
and freya here - we've packed the gear
we hope the weather's ever nice

time to snooze
o freya cat
then time to hit the sea
an ice cream dream
the scarborough scene
that's him and you and me

so me and grans and grandads
and cousin elsie too
we'll squeeze into the caravan
and practise raspberries...
           tttttthhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppppppppp!

sparrows tomorrow

who know what will happen to-sparrow?
who know what will happen to-marrow?
who know what will happen to-barrow?
what matters' what matters today

are you sure what your future will bring?
the birds in the woodlands all sing
(see - they all fly on the wing)
what matters' what matters today

you're rabbit - cat - leopard - but caring
a happy life - love made for sharing
some fast food - in boxes of squaring
what matters' what matters today

dave wood
a calming kiss

where's my tea?
he says to me
that's forty years of wedded bliss

he's calm - you see
(but specs he'll need)
o dearest you - i'd like a calming kiss

the smell of grass
(allotment tasks)
i think of lemon shower gel
my dear - ha ha
i won't get far
perhaps you'll fix the car as well

so glasses on - we've theatre sped
we're green and silver - cultured up
then home at ten and off to bed
and what about a nice cup...?
         noooooooo!!!!!!!!

dave wood
for natalie

oh i'm sod's law's worst nightmare

it can't catch up with me
yellow boxes - yellow lines
grow old disgracefully

i love my husband gary

i want to play the drums
i hope i've got the hang of it
before x-factor comes

my hair is pink and purple

and tartan if i can
then i'll frighten off the clients
when the books fly off the van

lynn parker
loop de loop
created for reading to a visiting playgroup (under 3's)

loop de loop
is cock a hoop
we're jingle jangle now
and all aboard the plinky bus
with jingle jangle cow!

all around the pongo field
and back to meet the queen!
the biggest bestest plinky bus
that loop de loop has seen

lynn parker
yes - he'll do

no more bikes
i got what i likes
a man with a car - yes - he'll do
i've got all my kids
and do what i did
we go shopping for stuff old and new

and bombs in the past
at least didn't last
i survived and went on to teach
now life is a horse
with hurdles of course
and lily of valley - in reach

dave wood
those that blend

an anchor - you are the one
faithful to the end
set my compass right
(whatever the journey sends)

your are my presence forever
an ongoing friend
and deep like the ring of red wine
we are of those that blend

we sing of vanilla - purple blue and green
we sing of art and beauty - future's dream

the great escape

o horrors! where is vowles?
the senior manager howls -
but the van is packed and ready, on its way
you cannot call him back
he hasn’t got the sack
but vowles & co' are off to france today!

for this enterprising man
has got his caravan
and painted it in red and white and blue
not white and blue and red
but the other way round instead
‘cos that’s the way the french ones like it too.

so don’t forget your book
and give us one last look
and when you’ve crossed the channel, shout hooray!

Transported into Poetry (1) Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQAjMfHtqzE
Dave Wood reading three poems created as part of the Transported into Poetry scheme.

poem for reece

my name's monique and this is my son reece
he's brilliant - creative and so cool
i hate it when i send him off to school
i like it when i get no minutes' peace

he's blue and green and all things out of doors
he'd be a tiger - one who comes to tea
i don't think he would ever frighten me
even when he roars and roars and roars

he'd love to be a strongman if he could
i'll always love him whether he's bad or good

lynn parker

she knows

she purrs - my scorpio - she's liquer* - pie and mash
i"ll always raise a spade for her
and perfume - raise a splash
she's my purple - pink and blue - my five ten years and six
i hide the spiders from her eyes (and that gets double ticks)

what we got for tea then? my liquer* - pie and mash
each knows the each and twice as deep - our hearts are fast attached
and sweet hearts bring the answers to whatever puzzles pose
i'm married then - i said - she knows - she knows - she knows

*also spelled liquor

birthday quirk of love

happy birthday - for you're my quirk of love
don't take this wrong but stupid suits you great
and so does sweat - i guess that makes you tough
what makes you ten from out of ten - can't wait

don't take this wrong but stupid suits you great
don't d.i.y too long (the hairs' turned grey)
what drives you? water - wheels and run (it's fate...)
that green says go and red's your vibrant way

and o that sweat - i guess that makes you tough
but birthday's here - let's sculpt the hours to suit
there's me and you - so stop (i know it's rough)
let's culture some more quirk into our roots

what makes you ten from out of ten - can't wait
and here's my song - this birthday suits you great

dave wood

joined together round the bend

time for a purple wedding - in - di go
one says sorry - one's cheeky to the end
one's star - one's smiley faced - we know
the both will join together - round the bend

one says sorry - one's cheeky to the end
both blue and purple silver - dog and cat
and bread and bacon aftershave
depends
on how you look at each of each - how's that?

one's star - one's smiley faced - we know
who's rock god - who likes to listen all
and son-shine in the middle - love's to know
all busy to the hilt - now wedding calls

both will join together round the bend
we wish them well - we're cheeky to the end

heart coloured bright

thirty five has disappeared and ran away to sea
and now she's thirty six at last - then seventy's got to be

now numbers' crunched - we're out to lunch
the herd has gathered 'round
time paints her portrait  in red wine
(with bubbles built on sound)

through reservations - doubts and care
the heart is coloured bright
music pours throughout the doors
and fills a cultured night

and now she's thirty six at last and come back from the sea
thirty five shall raise a cheer and seventy's proud to be

dave wood

spirits waked

who-ever's tute-ing - best be quick
for dave has waved his quirking stick
and up above - the wailing starts
the food is served - delicious tarts!

the atmosphere cuts through the night
(the wailing ghost is out of sight)
steak and beer - perfume - scent
(aftershave that makes a dent)

season's summer - spirits waked
foundations creak and thirsts are slaked
and dressed in floral shorts and top
the ghost upstairs begins to bop

what dance she does - just can't outlick
when dave has waved his quirking stick!

dave wood

spring deep for rabbits

here creeps the ivy - the buddleia springs deep
what weeds keep dancing onwards are always out of reach
within the heart of gardens - the docks nail down their roots
beneath the eyes of wonder - the rabbits chew the shoots

what weeds keep dancing onwards are always out of reach
here creeps the ivy - the buddleia springs deep

twitching potato for bbc radio lincs

minogue - min-o-go
does he prefer kylie
or potato
or tomato?

but everyone
loves him
he's red - gold
and green
the twitching he does
it gives him a buzz
that - and he's an award winning
nice bloke with henry the cat
and right on the scene...

chasing ice cream vans

whatever opens up the book engages with the page
whatever stirs the 'yes we could' breaks free of the cage
whatever tickles funny bones - whatever makes a sneeze
the secrets in the mobile van (the mobile libraries)

so think of pizzas dripping cheese with peppers on the top
and consider chasing ice cream vans (perhaps you'd rather not)
what imagination gets stirred up - there's teal and red and white
look out for the logo - take a bite

sowing seeds for wales

ferrets like to fly

buddha likes to skydive
he does it in his vest
and when he lands on autumn leaves
he likes that way the best

and when he gets some chocolate

he sculptures with the wrappers
and throws the fancy box away
and runs off like the clappers

he likes to do the garden

and sit in carter park
'specially with some chocolate
and only when it's dark

lynn parker

the man of many parts

i used to be a teacher
but now i'm on the van
i used to be in ghana
i'm such an over- reacher
i'm just that kind of man

and once i was a tourist guide

but now i take books for a ride
and as i trundle down the road
i think of all the time i'm
owed

it's time to write a book or two

on ghana or the arts
i'm such an over-reacher
a man of many parts
that's where the problem starts
cos' i haven't got a clue

lynn parker

library vans 'r' us

liz the fab assistant
is expert on the van
her records are all up to date
she's got the master plan

but then she's got her blonde i.d

and likes to knit and craft
and loves to go and party
and reel round being daft

she'd be a bee - a busy bee

she's always doing more
although she'll never get there
with her bag trapped in the door

lynn parker

wagging through time

wagging through time

though wag through time - they don't drink wine
white black and tan - but where to dine?
and what you see is what you get
and all should have this social pet

and what's your name? o - i've forgot
but i can name you every dog
we've had for years
those wiggly ears
and terriers - we hold so dear
and hobbies then for canine things?
walking - sports - food processing
collaborate with doggies then
take a lead from us
what inter-species gettings on
is always worth the fuss

sweet smell

so cook me something up -party on
love and care for me - you tiger - you
it's time for outdoor time (time for fun)
we're in the green - hoping sky is blue

love and care for me - you tiger - you
bring your aftershave - make me sweet
what time's the bar? raise a glass to truth!
the tent awaits - await the time we meet

we're in the green - hoping sky is blue
love and care for me - you tiger - you

dave wood

laugh laugh laugh

do tell me about peppa pig
is she tall and ever so big?
as big as the sky?
or as small as my eye?
does she munch on grass or on twigs?

who's messy and noisy? well that's you
who's bubble bath soaked? doo be doo
so be a giraffe
and laugh laugh laugh laugh
we know that your colour's dark blue

and daddy and mummy and you
will go camping and swimming the views
you're our future - we know
and that's where you'll grow
(we waited for this poem - in a queue!)

dave wood

fantastic

so i am everything and everything is me
i'm fantastic - red and white and blue
the ladies love me - they do my work - you see?
i'm lion-like - does that give you clues?

and i'm bendy - beer - what time is the bar?
i'll leave the motorbike - sniff the new mown grass
i'll read the poetry on toilet walls afar
i'm fantastic (said again) - the ladies do my tasks

dave wood

father and son and football

so sing me a song o singing bird
let the notes go orange - high and high
whatever song - whatever's heard
calms me blue - lets me qualify

so parrot me - climb the ivy wall
three years since we met - together still
eyes watch - legs run - so that's football
and singing yet - the voices seem to trill

you calm me blue - let me qualify
let the notes go orange - high and high

dave wood

an iggle piggle hymn

iggle piggle - here's the giggle
likes his cars and cakes and wriggles
he's a ginger cat that jiggles
had his first pair - proper shoes

in the bath tub - smells so gleaming
bubbles up and through the cleaning
chilled and friendly - what he's seeming
swings and slides and sandpits too

knows his granny - she's the bestest
she's the one he's always tested
when he's still - we hope he's rested
fifteen months and sixteen next...

dave wood

books that speak

we're round the bend - so hear the pages turn
we're elephant and lumber like we do
we love our jobs - for smell of books we yearn
the white van comes - we bring our love to you

we talk of books and talk of books that speak
we don't forget the people that come in
we flash our purple black -we drive the week
we greet the world - the world greets with a grin

we love our jobs - for smell of books we yearn
we're round the bend - so hear the pages turn

dave wood

food processing blues

so natalie - it's time to pluck the strings
to play piano - to tune the ears of muse
put down the choc'late - put down those things
you graceful tiger you - go play the blues

so play piano - to tune the ears of muse
write of lavender - flowers - watching films
or food processing - whatever's in the truth
pink purple neon blue - whatever hair has willed

put down the choc'late - put down those things
oh natalie - it's time to pluck the strings

dave wood

we keep talking

you sail on - we all do
the guitar strings keep playing in the sun
we keep talking - red and grey and blue
i know the aftershave - the river's run

the guitar strings keep playing in the sun
the phone will know our words and our thoughts
what books you keep are piled (until they're gone)
you swagger as i watch you in your walk

we keep talking - red and grey and blue
i ask you how you are (the gardening's gone to pot)
what pill you take is daily (keeps you true)
i know you care - whatever life has got

i know the aftershave - the river's run
the guitar strings keep playing in the sun

dave wood

expensive jeans

do you want me back - my lion - romantic sea?
would you bring your perfume to my life again?
will i see your hat - expensive jeans?
six months - i knew you then so when

will i see your hat (expensive jeans)?
and will you want me back - romantic sea?

dave wood

flowers

the dolphin said - i won't have red
i'll have the green and blue and pink
poetry's nice - i'd like it twice
i'll put the fliwers in the sink

and culture too - so here's a clue
there's friends to make and arts and crafts
and hundred per cent is not intense
we're ready here - what makes the laughs?

i'll put the flowers in the sink
i'll have the green and blue and pink

dave wood

know its blast

i've been around - but my brain is dead today
i've trumpeted - i've loved to know its blast
i'm like a dog - reliable in my way
just take me off to norfolk to relax

i've trumpeted - i've loved to know its blast
music's varied in my ears - i'll try it all
i've been policeman - ran with rugby fast
i've caught the bullet - an eye that took the call

i'm like a dog - reliable in my way
and thank you dad - your cooking's still as sweet
and thanks to leicester football club - they're great
but brain feels dead - the two halves never meet

just take me off to norfolk to relax
i've trumpeted - i've loved to know its blast

dave wood

a hymn to smelly feet

smelly feet and smelly toes
loves it when the trumpet blows
loves stan the dog - he calms her woes
sniffing at the flower box

mr monkey - loves the birdies
roars like a lion - quite absurdy
mental - riot - two big wordies
orange orange hazard sign

miracle - a little beauty
look at dreams - my little cutie
part scottish - english - what a fruitie
blow the trumpet hard again

dave wood

sausages

so everything's a cup of tea
a cat that knows it's really free
everything is fish and chips
we ask for answers - quest for tips

everything's green gold and blue
the smell of lillies and sea breeze
on a scale of ten - i'd say it's eight
it's a stream - but i've got to go...it's late

one question - god - so what's it like
to be everything (including sausages)?

dave wood

love and truth

so - everything - how do i describe?
my wales - my very welsh - my red
my warm - my beautiful - love - my life
my bear (sometimes grizzly - there i've said!)

my wales - my very welsh - my red
my years (o forty three!) samsara sweet
you are my home - my garden - flowers set
we share a schnauzer - we share a beat

we are our heritage - we share our future too
our forty third - you are my love and truth

dave wood

two cultures bring

it's happiness you bring - you're sunshine sweet
twelve months before - twelve months last week
you are too much - but not too much to love
i know your scent - we see it rise above

so - what to be? my chipmunk hears me sing
two halves between the two - two cultures bring

dave wood

plenty spare

who's for tortillas - who's for snacks?
who's for bacon? who's got the sass?
who's name is dove? who's red? who's pink?
who's there in life to make the links?

who causes mischief? runs a riot?
who misses who when all is quiet?
my heart's got room - a corner's there
what love you give is plenty spare

dave wood

full on ahead

so it's our life - full on ahead
we give our time for freely here
we're in the green and blue and red
we're days and weekends - months and years

we give our time for freelly here
what's planted's grown (the symbol works)
no time ourselves - whatever's near
we chase the news (at where it lurks)

we're in the green and blue and red
so it's our life - full on ahead
